Last time we saw Brad's Cambridge supervisor was when he came for a visit back in November 2008. While here, he stopped by to read a very appropriate book to Jillian, Winnie the Pooh. (For the last time Mr. Ian appeared on this blog, check here).
Well, Mr. Ian returned, and this time brought two new books! The first was a Roald Dahl classic, George's Marvelous Medicine. As Ian quipped, by reading this story, Jillian would discover precisely what her Daddy and Mr. Ian do at work all day. :-)
After they read some, we went to California Tortilla for some dinner, and then Ian rode off on the new bike that Brad lent him for the duration of his visit. The girl's thought this a little odd way for someone to depart, and quickly made the association between Ian and the bicycle. In fact, the next time we saw him, Faith first words were "Bike. Where? He ride Daddy's bike".
Side Note: Jillian has the lei of flowers on her head because she thinks it looks similar to a wedding veil. :-)
Jillian very patiently sat with Mr. Ian as he read excerpts from a much lengthier book than she is accustomed to.
For his next visit, he brought another classic English text, Mr. Tickle, the first in the Mr. Men series. Needless to say, Faith and Jillian loved this tale as well (and the accompanying tickles!)
Do you see our Anna? She is preparing for sky-diving class next Monday. They say we are pushing her too hard, but she is so advanced we think it is the right thing to do.
(LOL-Sorry, I am terrible at jokes, even on the blog, but Brad and I thought it was funny!)
As a gift to Ian's family for sharing him with us, we sent him home with a box of American Brownie mix and Hungry Jack Pancake mix (& Dramamine for his flight). We hear they were well received.
Update: Ian's three weeks in the US were very productive. Brad and Ian were able to accomplish a lot experimentally and were also able to work on the outline to his thesis. Since Ian's departure, Brad has continued to work diligently on his thesis (with experiments on the side) and has completed 108 pages of text and 40 pages of figures. Brad estimates he most likely will have another fifty pages to his thesis and then will come editing. He is nearly there!
This last week Brad came home with a "gift" for me. He told me he had a surprise and pulled out of his back pack....the Table of Contents to his thesis! Its on our refrigerator on display. :-) I am so proud (and excited too)!
