Last Thursday, Brad, Jillian and I went to London to do a little sight-seeing with my dad, Marilyn, and Kristin! It had been nearly eleven months we had seen one another, so it was an extra special reunion. Jillian instantly cliqued with her Grammie, Grandad, and Auntie Kristin ( I think because children are so perceptive to when they are loved and appreciated). And they were so EXCITED to finally get to see Jillian walk and talk with their very own eyes!
They were so gracious too, to allow us to make the itinerary for the two days that we were with them in London. We were really appreciative of them allowing us to choose what we wanted to do, because there were several things on our "to-see list" that we hadn't been able to do yet! And an even greater blessing, was having Grammie with us! She babysat Jillian a number of times, while Brad and I explored a museum, listened to a guide without distraction, or even climbed a steep hill without having to push a stroller!
The first day we went to Greenwich and first had a guided/ walking tour of the city. And then we climbed a hill to go to the Royal Observatory and to see the Prime Meridian (I actually stood on TWO hemispheres at the same time!). :) Then we went to the Royal Maritime Museum, which was absolutely full of amazing artifacts and exhibits, you easily could have spent hours just at that one museum. Some of the best highlights for Brad, as they were for me, were seeing Admiral Nelson's coat that he was wearing when he was shot at the Battle of Treflagar (you could see the hole in the shoulder of his coat where the bullet went through), and the actual life-boat that was used by the survivors of Shackelton! Then we strolled through the Greenwich market, and then made our way back to the city of London to see the British Library. The British Library houses the Magna Carter, a Gutenberg Bible, original works by Shakespeare, Handel's Messiah, a book presented to Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn, and original manuscripts of some of the most famous songs by the Beatle's. That night, we returned to the hotel/ apartment we were staying in London (treat of my parents) and had dinner at place called Garfunkels (equivalent to a Chili's in the US). I was exhausted at the end of the day, but it was well worth it! :)
