Learning at Home

It was a beautiful day the day we got home from the retreat. 
 We took advantage of the beautiful weather and Brad took the girls on a bike ride around the block.  We are really proud of how Jillian has mastered riding her big girl bike and we are also super excited how fast Faith has become riding her bike with training wheels! :-)

On Monday morning, we did an abbreviated school day and did our reading lesson and math lesson.  Aunt Leigha really enjoyed teaching Jillian some new math concepts.

In the meantime, Faith enjoyed caring for her new baby doll. Aunt Leigha brought each of the girls a porcelain doll that belonged to her as a child (and were given to her by our mom).

On Tuesday morning, after morning lessons, Auntie Jen came to teach the girl's their first art lesson!   Auntie Jen made the girls portfolios to keep their artwork in....

and even little Anna got one!  Anna loved decorating her portfolio with star stickers.

Auntie Jen also gave the girls folders to store some of their work!

Auntie Jen started out our art class with some time for coloring. Here Faith is showing her first "assignment". :-)

Auntie Jen set the timer, so that all of us would be sure to stay on track to get all of our artwork done for the day.  I put on the classical music and we all enjoyed our time of coloring.

Then, we had a time of art appreciation and learned about portraits!

I was blown away by all the preparation Auntie Jen did to teach the girls.  She is an incredible blessing in our lives. I love how much she adores our girls and how she desires to teach us and pour into our lives.


Each of the girls chose five portraits and "journaled" (with Auntie Jen's and my help) about what they observed about the portraits.  This is one of the pages in Faith's art journal/ sketch pad.

Then Auntie Jen traced the girl's full body and they created their own self-portrait.

Faith drew a picture of books (and her favorite characters: Belle, Snow White, Cinderella, and Ariel), a picture of her two sisters, her bike, and a zebra (her new favorite animal). 

Jillian made herself into a ballerina for her self-portrait!

Jillian loves math of all sorts and readily accepts math puzzles and challenges!!!

This game is called the Tower of Hanoi

The Tower of Hanoi (also called the Tower of Brahma or Lucas' Tower,^[1] and sometimes pluralised) is a 

mathematical game or puzzle. It consists of three rods, and a number of disks of different sizes which can slide

onto any rod. The puzzle starts with the disks in a neat stack in ascending order of size on one rod, the smallest 

at the top, thus making a conical shape.

The objective of the puzzle is to move the entire stack to another rod, obeying the following rules:

• Only one disk may be moved at a time.
• Each move consists of taking the upper disk from one of the rods and sliding it onto another rod, on top of
• the other disks that may already be present on that rod.
• No disk may be placed on top of a smaller disk.

With three disks, the puzzle can be solved in seven moves.
