A Cookie Competition

On Friday, of our first week of school, we spent the afternoon doing some baking.

I have an incredible friend who is the Queen of our local Montgomery Fair.  She gave me pointers as how to best help the girls enter into the baking competition!

First off, she said for the girls' ages, it probably would be best to stick with cookies, but don't do chocolate chip (because there are always way too many entries in that catagory).

So, I called my friend Michelle and asked if she knew of any unique, but easy, cookie recipes that she thought the girls could make for the competition!!! 

And of course she had some great recipes, and not only that, she invited the girls and I over to her house to bake them!! 

The first cookie was called Snickerdoodles with white chocolate.

I thought that was a super boring name, so inspired by the Hershey's White Chocolate Delight bars we bought (see first picture) to make the cookies, we re-named the cookies....

We always have lots of fun making cookies at Aunt Michelle's,

but I will tell you, when you enter cookies into a competition where complete strangers are going to eat the cookies.....

we had to do A LOT of hand-washing.

The girls altogether washed their hands no less than a dozen times (but probably two dozen times) while we baked!!! 

It is very hard not to lick your fingers when you are using yummy peanut butter!!! 

But the results were divine.  We made Peanut Butter/ Chocolate with Chocolate Chip Cookies Swirl cookies! They tasted even better than they look!

Then we placed our six cookies on a white plate inside a ziploc bag to enter into the county fair.

We had all these cookies to take home (and we left this many for Aunt Michelle and her family too)! Thankfully, we had company over the next day, and we were able to share some of the cookies!!! 

Jillian doesn't like peanut butter, so she entered the Snickerdoodle's Delight. Faith entered the Peanut Butter/ Chocolate with Chocolate Chips Cookies Swirl!!! 

Then we registered the girl's into the fair.

Here is my friend Micki, who inspired us to enter into the fair in the first place!!! Thank you Micki for encouraging us to experience the fun of the fair in a new way.

and Jillian does too! They were both so excited. 

Then we ran into friends from church. Mrs. T was the girls' Cubbie director, their Sunday school teacher, and she is my homeschool reviewer too! Mrs. T's daughter, Addie created her own recipe, Gatorade cupcakes, for the baking competition.  

After we entered our cookies, we wandered around the fair for a short while.

A church was offering free face-painting (or arm painting) as they shared the good news of Christ.  Jillian got a butterfly. 

Anna got Minnie Mouse on her arm,

and Faith got a panda bear!!  It was a great little introduction to the fair, but we were excited to get to go back the next week to find out the results of the competition.
