Thanksgiving Eve

We were so excited to host Brad's parents, Mimi and PawPaw, for Thanksgiving this year. They arrived Thanksgiving Eve and they spent that night with us preparing for the big day, catching up on news, and playing with the girls.  We had so much fun and the girls just adored their time with their grandparents.

Faith was immediately attached to her PawPaw!

He gave her lots of love and attention! He's a wonderful PawPaw!

In the meantime, Brad and Anna were lounging on the floor catching up with Mimi about all the latest news!

Then it was time for the girls and PawPaw to help me assemble the Pilgrim Hats.

Somehow my bag of marshmallows got a little smushed (I won't name names, but I think it was the one with the purple pacifier who did it), so the girls hand-picked the marshmallow that looked like good hats!

(My hats did not turn out as pretty as these, but they tasted just as good and we had lots of fun too!)
Marshmallow Pilgrim Hats:
Ingredients
  • 24 chocolate-striped shortbread cookies
  • 12-ounce package of chocolate chips
  • 24 large marshmallows
  • tube of yellow decorators' frosting
Instructions
  1. Set the chocolate-striped cookies stripes down on a wax-paper-covered tray, spacing them well apart.
  2. Melt the chocolate chips in a microwave or double boiler.
  3. One at a time, stick a wooden toothpick into a marshmallow, dip the marshmallow into the melted chocolate, and promptly center it atop a cookie.
  4. Using a second toothpick to lightly hold down the marshmallow, carefully pull out the first toothpick.
  5. Chill the hats until the chocolate sets, then pipe a yellow decorators' frosting buckle on the front of each hat.

Then while I finished getting dinner ready, Daddy and PawPaw talked to the girls about the first Thanksgiving using Family Life ThanksLiving Family Devotions Kit. In the kit there are several large postcards of famous paintings that depict scenes of importance to Thanksgiving.  It also includes ceramic figures of corn, a cross and a ship, as well as a miniature ThanksLiving Bible to use in your devotions!

Then we all enjoyed one of my favorite dinners, Skillet Chicken with Broccoli, Ziti, and Asiago Cheese
( an America's Test Kitchen recipe)!

I love these three little blessings and am so thankful that Mimi and PawPaw came to celebrate Thanksgiving with our family.
