Ordinarily when we fly home to Texas we leave at the crack of dawn to miss the morning traffic and to catch the earliest flight (to prevent delays or cancellation of flights). But for some reason, this time, I thought we should cut ourselves a little slack and not leave until the morning traffic was over.....I won't leave you in suspense, it was a BIG MISTAKE!
The girls were pretty cranky and worn out by the time we got on the plane (that was delayed) and Anna didn't get ANY nap that day. Normally, that wouldn't be too much of a problem, Anna typically goes with the flow and does whatever we are doing. But on this day, Anna was NOT happy we were on the plane; she screamed the entire time we were on the flight. There was nothing we could do to console her and I got lots of mean looks from people who were not happy that our baby was disrupting their "relaxation time"!
To top that, as we were landing, Faith had her own little melt-down because we had told her in a firm voice that she needed to sit down. We had two screaming children for a few minutes! Sadly, we did not have any sweet grandmother sitting close to us who could coo over our kids and encourage us that we were doing a "good job" as parents (even if our kids are far from perfect).
Instead, we had a flight attendant who gave the children BEHIND us cookies for their "excellent behavior" on the flight and praised them in a loud enough voice for us to hear all her accolades! Brad and I were a little disgruntled by the "cookie incident"! Especially, because my children have behaved PERFECTLY on every other flight we have had to TEXAS and they have never gotten any cookies. :-(
Really, I could care less about a cheap bag of $0.25 cookies but it did make me a little mad/ sad that the attendant was not more helpful or sympathetic toward our dilemma! Thankfully, we did survive it and we made it safely to Texas.
After arriving at the airport, we took our second bus of the day to go to the car rental place to get our rental car. (This was the first time we have ever had to rent a car in TX, usually, my parents generously lend us my dad's car for our trip. But with my brother's wedding, we knew it would be difficult for them to be down a car, so we offered to rent a car.) It was a long day...the girls were cute though and were adding up all the different vehicles that we had been in one day. 2 cars, 2 buses, 1 plane = 5 VEHICLES with three little kids!! :-)
The day after arriving in Texas, Anna began to run a high fever of over 102. The next day, we went to my dad's office to have her checked out. My dad already suspected she probably had an ear infection, but boy were we surprised when we discovered our baby girl had NOT ONE infection but TWO ear infections! Our poor baby had been in a lot of pain on the plane!!! Thankfully we were able to get antibiotics and she was quickly on the mend!
